Weekly update

Friday 24 May

Hello, this week has been very interesting.  I've had a lot to do but it was so much fun.  I did quite a bit (In my opinion) and I'm happy to do my blog today (for once) because I have so much to say (write).

Winter sport

On Thursday we had winter sports.  For winter sports I play netball.  I'm in the O.L.A bell birds.  We played against Selwyn school.  They won 15-6 but we still enjoyed the game.  Some of the people in the netball team weren't very nice but other than that it was so much fun.  I can't wait for next week and I hope we can get all the goals.

Mary slideshow

The last two weeks we have been learning about Mary and the major events in Mary's life.  I was in a pair with Xander.  I really enjoyed working with him.  This is my Mary slideshow that I have been working on.

Chapter chat

This week we have also been doing chapter chat on a book called fish in a tree.  Chapter chat is when you read a book chosen by the creator of chapter chat (this term it's fish in a tree) and you have to read a certain amount of chapters each week.  Then you have activities to do.  Then on Friday (Today) you get questions that you answer on twitter.  You can also post your work on twitter.

Inquiry

For Inquiry my group did flyers.  It took us a long time but it was worth it.  We still haven't handed them out but we were going to do that on the day of the teacher strike (Wednesday).  I'm still annoyed at myself that I didn't fix part of it but it's okay.  It took my group awhile to write on by Batten team O.L.A because we forgot to but other than that it was pretty easy.

Thank you for reading.

Weekly update

Friday 17 May

Good morning.  This week has been very exciting! On Monday we had chapter chat and a values assembly.  Our values assembly was about anti-bullying and also about responsibility and how we should be responsible for our actions.  On Tuesday my friend Simon and I stayed in at morning tea and learnt how to make a brochure using Google docs, but other than that it was pretty normal.  On Wednesday it was a pretty average day as well.  There was no lit club on but I did ride a unicycle at Hoon Hay Primary School for the first time. On Thursday we had winter sports.  For winter sports I played netball.  It was the O.L.A Bell birds versus Sacred Heart.  My team won 12 to 6.  Today it's Pink Shirt day.  I wore my pink nike shirt.  Pink shirt day is all about anti-bullying.  All over the world people are wear pink shirts.  Today is also the last day of doing our eel action plan.  I really hope that we can print and hand out all the flyers.

Thank you for reading.

I made my house out of cardboard

Friday 5 April

Caritas Challenge

Hello weekly post time.  Yesterday we did the Caritas challenge.  So me, Simon, Rose, Elish, Julia, Hannah and Lexie built a house out of cardboard ( and duck tape and a tarpaulin).  It didn't take us too long we just had to find an area, put down the floor, cut the cardboard, tape it together and put the tarp over it.  I taped some cardboard to the edge of the house and then we had a long thin piece of cardboard holding up the tarp.  It was BOILING in there.  Then at lunch we had plain rice.  No meat, no veges, just rice.  We weren't allowed to use spoons or forks, we had to use our hands.  I had so much fun yesterday  but the highlight for me had to be eating rice with my hands mainly because I'm not allowed to do it at home.  An interesting part for me had to be building the fort while thinking but how the people in South Sudan do it.  I struggled to even build a small fort that had to hold 7 people (I got very frustrated with one of our walls).  But the people in South Sudan must get so annoyed with their houses.  Think about how they have to get the materials they have to build it ,then wait for it to dry.  If I could go over to South Sudan and help I would help with the food.  Plain rice would be okay but having it over and over again would make me sick.  Thanks for reading.

Kolf Ball

Hi, this week I learned how to played Kolf ball.  Kolf ball is a mixture of basketball and netball.  The rules are you can not dribble, you can not run with the ball, if a player is marking you you can not shoot and you might have to hand the ball over to the other team, you can throw the ball 5 metres away.  Our coach was called Youri and on Thursday Youri wasn't there it was a different guy called um I forgot his name but me and Lexie called him cool Youri.

Miss O'Donnell's Birthday

On Wednesday it was Miss O'Donnell's birthday.  There were balloons and the juniors had pieces of paper with the number 30 on it and it was coloured in.  We all sung her happy birthday then went back to class.  It was also a kid named Joshua's birthday.

A visit from Don the eel scientist

Ramere 22 Poutu-te-rangi

Hello.  Today we had a visit from a man named Don.  Don is an eel scientist.  Don works for The National Institute of Water and Atmosphere.  This is all the things Don taught me today.

  • If eels have spots on their body then they are Australian longfin eel.
  • Eels can swim forwards and backwards.
  • You can tell if an eel has eaten a crab because their bottom is red.
  • Longfin eels are cannibals.
  • Eels don't have to eat everyday.
  • An eels ear bone is used to tell how old an eel is.
  • The numbers of rings on the ear bone is how old the eel is.
  • Eels do not eat while they have their eggs.
  • Eels have 7-20 million eggs.
  • Big eels have 20-45 million eggs.
  • Eels eat animals whole.
  • Eels can sense prey and predators coming past.
  • Eel can grow up to 2 meters.
  • Eels can suck in their prey with their breath.
  • Because of the eels slime they can squeeze in and out of spaces.
  • Eels have 112 vertebrates.
  • Eels are easy to catch if you have bait.
  • Eels hate sunlight.
  • Eels also hate it when soil gets into rivers because it gets rid of the food underground.
  • If the ground is not to hot eels can
